CULANTH 465S

Examination of new ways of living and surviving in cities across the world – new urbanization as distinct from the "new urbanism" – in context of the decline of the industrial economy, the offshoring of work, the creation of network cities and so-called "global cities." Explores impact of increased urbanization, linked to "post-wage" work, informalization, and inequality. Addresses dilemmas of alternative forms of life through "cases," including cities in the global North and South, varied "urban" schools, their theories and methodologies. One course.
