In this course, we approach modern citizenship as a form of political belonging that is lived collectively and culturally. Second, we will understand citizenship, not through the legal/constitutional ideal of formal equality but as one modality for the elaboration of social inequality. Finally, we will seek to "provincialize" the framework of national citizenship by looking to the elaboration of political belonging and rights in transnational circuits of cultural and political exchange. 3 units.
