Students may elect to receive an en passant M.A. (also known as en route M.A.), granted upon progressing to PhD candidacy after successful completion of the Portfolio Workshop (preliminary exam).
To receive the en passant M.A. students need to formally apply for Master's Graduation in DukeHub by the deadline for the semester of your portfolio workshop (typically October 1st for Fall, February 1st for Spring).
If you do not apply to graduate by the deadline, you are still eligible to receive the en passant M.A. any subsequent semester until the semester of your dissertation defense.
