The study of Native America was once the defining feature of American anthropology. During the Red Power movement of the 1960s and 1970s, however, the privilege of mostly white anthropologists to poke and pry into native affairs was called into question. And anthropology was moving away from its exoticizing (neo)colonial focus exclusively on so-called “tribal/primitive” groups to the study of people, processes, and cultures of all kinds. What is the relation of anthropology to Native America and indigenous issues now? Three leading scholars will join us for a discussion of the politics, directions, problems, and possibilities at stake.   Colloquium video.
