How has being a Cultural Anthropology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My personal fascination has always been with words, including parlance in modern pop culture. CA helped me see the intersectionality of sociology, psychology, economics and so other interdisciplinary functions. As an in-house attorney and business & legal affairs consulting for a media, marketing and event management company, I help ensure business arrangements are drafted with the right words to manage all parties expectations. Understanding the people I work with is as critical as the business I am doing for them."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Cultural Anthropology programs?

"I was drawn to CA because of its interdisciplinary nature. I focused my studies on modern and populate culture. Studying CA helps pursue any subject matter from so many angles. Critical thinking skills sharpened through your academic explorations, coupled with an open mind and willingness to always ask questions, will be valuable in any career."
