Assistant Professor, University of California San Francisco – San Francisco, CA

2002 Major: Cultural Anthropology

How has being a Cultural Anthropology graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

A major in Cultural Anthropology gave me a strong foundation for qualitative research methods that I have used throughout my career. I still use skills developed in my cultural anthropology classes all the time. I also use the critical thinking and broad perspective of anthropology to understand to multifactorial influences on health behaviors.

What advice would you give students in Duke's Cultural Anthropology programs?

Take classes that interest you and challenge your thinking. Developing an ability to think critically and understand and apply theory are broadly applicable to many different career fields.
