We will explore the history and theory of money – what it represents, how it circulates, the meanings it carries, its contemporary transformations – not only in the West but also in the global south. Some of the topics to be considered include shell currencies, gift economies, Ponzi schemes, paperless money, derivatives and futures, hedge funds, and global debt. Instructor: Piot
